"This impressive disc marks the debut of the 18-voice chamber choir Ora. If you’re wondering why another such ensemble is needed, the very distinctive programme is the answer...In bold projects like this, the ever-reliable English choral tradition is renewed again."- Nicholas Kenyon, Guardian, 17th April 2016
ORA’s debut album is based on William Byrd’s Mass for 5 Voices, featuring six ORA commissions. Five of the commissions by Roxanna Panufnik, Francis Pott, Alexander L’Estrange, Owain Park and Charlotte Bray each reflect a different movement of the mass. The last commission is Roderick Williams’ reflection on Byrd’s Ave Verum which won the British Composer Award 2016 in the Choral Category.
