Upheld by Stillness

ORA Singers’ debut album release, featuring Roderick WilliamsAve Verum Corpus Re-Imagined, which received a British Composer Award. The music of William Byrd alongside commissioned reflections by Roxanna Panufnik, Francis Pott, Alexander L'Estrange, Owain Park and Charlotte Bray.

"This impressive disc marks the debut of the 18-voice chamber choir Ora. If you’re wondering why another such ensemble is needed, the very distinctive programme is the answer...In bold projects like this, the ever-reliable English choral tradition is renewed again."- Nicholas Kenyon - Guardian, April 2016

"Digby's direction is about as interventionist as you can get without being mannered. Crescendos swell through the Gloria and pacing surges and stills with emotion always at the fore."- Alexandra Coghlan - Gramophone, February 2016

Refuge from the Flames

Themed around the figure of Girolamo Savonarola, and featuring Allegri's Miserere as well as a reflection on William Byrd's Infelix ego by Ēriks Ešenvalds.

“ORA, conducted by Suzi Digby, has matched the celebrated Miserere by Allegri, with a new setting of the same text, radiant but anguished, by James MacMillan. Byrd’s heaven-sent Infelix Ego sits alongside a dense, soaring new version by Eriks Esenvalds. Performances by ORA, 18 singers strong are first rate"- Richard Fairman – Financial Times **** 4 Stars, October 2016

“Yet again, this group shows its considerable skill not only in expressive interpretation but in clarity of lines, subtletly of expression, and an ability to maintain an introspective atmosphere throughout.”- Shirley Ratcliffe, Choir and Organ ***** 5 Stars, January 2017

“All are brought vividly to life by ORA under Suzi Digby.”- Richard Fairman – Financial Times **** 4 Stars, June 2017

The Mystery of Christmas

Featuring two settings of ‘O magnum mysterium’, ORA Singers explores Christmas works, old and new, from expressions of joy to mystical reflection.

“First things first. If you want to hear Morten Lauridsen’s setting of his wildly popular O magnum mysterium the way it should be heard, this performance by Suzi Digby and her ORA Singers is the one–surely the most affecting and successful among more than a few dozen recorded and live performances I’ve heard”- David Vernier, Classics today

“All of these works demonstrate how rich the choral music of the present day really is, as can be seen in the desire of ORA Singers and Suzi Digby to make this heard. They do it perfectly.”- Oswald Beaujean, BR Klassik, Germany, November 2018

Desires album cover.png

DESIRES: A Song of Songs collection

An album based on Song of Songs including two ORA Singers commissions by Jonathan Dove and John Barber.

“The 14 works recorded here make for a rich and heady mix and we should be grateful to Digby and her super ORA Singers for what proves to be a fascinating musical journey. Digby coaxes a simply gorgeous, all-enveloping tone from her 18-strong choir that draws in the listener as the CD progresses. Warmly recommended. “- Philip Reed, Choir & Organ ***** 5 StarsJuly 2019

“Founded just three years ago, Suzi Digby’s ORA Singers have already got six recordings under their belt and established a clear musical signature – both in the pillowy, smudgy depth of their choral blend and in programming that combines Renaissance polyphony with contemporary works, often newly commissioned by the group themselves. ‘Desires’, the group’s newest release, doesn’t deviate from the successful model …It’s all very generous, very gorgeous and leaves you desperate for a stern bit of counterpoint.”- Alexandra Coghlan, Gramophone March 2019
