A seasonal special….
At ORA Singers, we can’t wait for Christmas, so we are offering composers nationwide the ORA Singers’ Christmas Gift of a world-class professional recording of their Christmas carols.
We’d love to hear Christmas works from composers of all ages and stages. and will be selecting 12 composers to have their compositions recorded by ORA Singers this December, each receiving a professional recording of their composition! Composers will also be able to join us on the 10th or 11th of December, during the rehearsal stages of their pieces, working alongside Suzi Digby OBE to fine tune their works.

What are we looking for?
We’re looking for composers in the UK who would benefit from a professional recording, whether you’ve just written your first choral work, or written hundreds! We want to select 12 composers with a broad range of experience. There is no age restriction, but we do want to see how this recording might help you take the next step in your compositional journey; whether that be for a youth training course, a college application, your portfolio or a paid commission.

You can apply by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org, containing your score and sound file, as well as the requested details below. Entries must be submitted before the end of the day on Monday, 18th November, 2019.

ORA Singers is looking for aspiring and/or professional composers who want to enhance their portfolio with a world-class recording of their work. Submit your entries to us before the 18th of November for your chance to work with an award-winning ensemble, led by Suzi Digby OBE.
- Composers must be resident in the UK
- Composers can be of any age, nationality or experience
- Under 18’s must have consent from their parent/guardian before submitting to the competition
- Piece must be Christmas or Winter themed
- Limited to one entry per composer
- Attendance at the rehearsal of your piece is optional and ability to do so will not disqualify you from entering or being selected.
In order to enter your work for Christmas Gift, please send an email to email@example.com containing the following. Your email entry should have a total of 4 attachments:
1) A pdf score of an a cappella piece scored for four vocal parts (SATB), no more than 5 mins long.
Pieces can be any combination of SATB. Solos are permitted, but not divisi.
The piece should be Christmas or Winter themed (a carol, or other seasonal piece), and not commercially recorded. The submitted piece may already be published, but in submitting the work to ORA Singers the composer agrees that the work may be recorded by, and at no cost to, ORA Singers. ORA Singers will only record the work if the composer’s application is successful and is chosen for Christmas Gift.
2) An mp3 file of the same piece
Please submit an mp3 file attached to your email. We expect that this file has likely been created through music scoring software using synthesised voices, although if you do have a live recording of the work please do submit this (wav, midi, links to soundcloud/youtube/websites, video and other formats cannot be accepted). Please note the work should not be commercially recorded.
3) Tell us about yourself (maximum 250 words)
Please send, as a separate attachment, a word or pdf document containing a short paragraph about yourself. Please ensure to include your age, location, website link (if applicable) and any other information you feel relevant to ORA Singers’ Christmas Gift.
4) Your answer to the question “Why do you want ORA Singers to record your piece?” (maximum 100 words).

The 12 chosen recipients of ORA Singers’ Christmas Gift will:
- Be invited to the rehearsal of their piece (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult and have signed permission from their parent/guardian)
- Receive an audio file of their piece.
Please note, successful composers will be required to sign a contract stating that: 1) ORA Singers has permission to make physical copies of the score for recording without paying any publishing or reproduction fee; 2) Composers will not be able to use the recordings for commercial purposes, only for promotional purposes; 3) ORA Singers own the rights to the recordings.
Contracts will be issued to selected composers in November 2019.
