Miserere - Music of Hope

  • Dom St. Peter, Regensburg Dom St. Peter Regensburg Germany (map)

ORA Singers presents a programme of Miserere settings by masterful composers from the Renaissance and the modern day, showing the influence of Mercy for so many choral writers. The programme begins with arguably the most famous Miserere setting of all, by Gregorio Allegri, renowned for its association with Ash Wednesday at the Sistine Chapel and for its infamous treble top C. Further Miserere settings come from the joint Fathers of English Musick, William Byrd and Thomas Tallis, and the concert ends with the modern-day Miserere masterpiece by James MacMillan. A mystery world premiere by a German composer completes this short, but powerful, hour-long concert.
